MY NAME IS MARCUS SMITH, ALSO KNOWN AS MARCUSCREATEDIT, AND I HAIL FROM PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. I AM A MUSIC PRODUCER, MERCH DESIGNER, AND DISABILITY ADVOCATE. YOU COULD SAY I AM AN OVERALL ENTREPRENEUR! I WAS BORN WITH CEREBRAL PALSY, AS WELL AS A GENETIC DISORDER CALLED SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY, A TYPE OF MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY. BECAUSE OF THIS, I USE A WHEELCHAIR BECAUSE MY LEGS GET FATIGUED. DESPITE THIS, I CAN STILL STAND AND WALK SHORT DISTANCES. MUSIC HAS BEEN A PART OF MY LIFE SINCE BEFORE I CAN REMEMBER. GROWING UP WITH MY PARENTS AND OLDER SISTERS, I WAS EXPOSED TO ALL TYPES OF MUSIC AS A YOUNG CHILD. I GREW UP HEARING MARY J. BLIGE, MARVIN GAYE, NAS, JOHN LEGEND, OR CHRIS BROWN BLARING FROM SPEAKERS INSIDE MY HOUSE AT ANY GIVEN TIME. I ALSO LIVED DOWN THE STREET FROM I.C. NORCOM HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE I WOULD OFTEN HEAR THEIR AWARD-WINNING BAND PRACTICING SOULFUL RENDITIONS OF POPULAR SONGS THAT WOULD GET CROWDS MOVING AND SHAKING. IF I WAS LUCKY, I WOULD GET TO GO TO A GAME WITH MY OLDER SISTERS TO SEE THEM PERFORM LIVE. AT 7-YEARS-OLD I JOINED MY CHURCH CHOIR AND SANG AS AN ALTO, AND BY THE AGE OF 10, I JOINED A COMMUNITY BAND BY THE NAME OF TONY’S ANGELS MARCHING BAND PLAYING THE SNARE DRUM. I BELIEVE INSPIRATION COMES FROM EVERYWHERE, AND I AM INSPIRED BY THE PEOPLE I MEET EVERY DAY. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO YOU ARE; IF YOU’RE DOING SOMETHING FOR THE GREATER GOOD OF THE COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD, YOU ARE MY INFLUENCE.
